Herbert's Resume

Hey there, I'm Herbert Hao ZHANG, a researcher with a knack for HCI, UX design, and game design. I'm currently the Senior UX Researcher at Oracle, helping make their products amazing for APAC customers. 

​

In my previous experience at Nanyang Technological University, I had my hands in diverse projects, from helping older adults with tech to optimizing phone banking experiences. During my PhD there, my research lies at game design to improve older adults’ game motivation and ability.

I'm genuinely excited about pushing the boundaries of research in the domains of HCI and UX, and I look forward to future opportunities for innovation and collaboration.

Experience

Apr 2022 - Present

Senior User Experience Researcher, Oracle 

  • I conduct UX research for our APAC customers (ANZ, SEA, Japan, China):

    • Work with stakeholders (PM, dev team, etc.) to collate research requirements,

    • Recruit participants and conduct research (interview, survey, usability testing, customer journey map, etc.)

    • Share research results with stakeholders after data analysis.

  • I implemented pre- and post-launch feedback collection mechanisms for APAC product team.

  • I lead the project to define the user research process and best practices for APAC UX team.

  • I am in charge of analyzing APAC net promoter score (NPS) data, generating insights reports based on both quantitative and qualitative data, and sharing them with stakeholders.

  • I initiated using Telemetry to analyze APAC customers’ behavior data

  • I initiated and lead the JAPAC persona/archetype project to create personas for JAPAC customers

Jan 2020 - Apr 2022

Research Fellow, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

  • I work on multiple research projects under this role, including:

    • Frailty project to design an end-to-end system for the assessment and intervention of frailty for older adults;

    • AISG project to design a community-based system to prevent Singapore citizens from 3H complications;

    • User experience project in collaboration with WeBank, China, to design and optimize the user experience in the phone banking industry.

  • I was responsible for the system design, user experience evaluation, data analysis, project management, and report writing in these projects.

Services

  • I have been of service to the HCI and other community over the past several years. I have been a reviewer at top-tier HCI conferences, such as CHI and CHI PLAY, and journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Games and Computers in Human Behavior. I have also taken up the service role at several international conferences, including the IEEE International Conference on Agents (IEEE ICA), the International Conference on Crowd Science and Engineering (ICCSE), and the International Conference on Ageless Aging (ICAA). I have also been a student volunteer at multiple conferences that I have attended, such as WI-IAT 2015, AAAI 2017 and CHI 2019.

  • I have co-supervised two undergraduate students for their Final Year Project and two graduate students on their thesis projects. As an active and long-standing member of my previous research lab, I am also in charge of some administration work, including project management, writing grant proposals and reports, and connecting with external research collaborators.
